A Kiddy Party

Last night I attended the first birthday party of the son of a very good friend. I had no impression of my own first birthday party, but then again, would anyone remember their own first birthday party?

When we reached there, the baby was napping. So we sat down, ate and chatted with friends.

Then the host carried the baby out. Everyone was going goo ga over him! It has been so long since I attended any first birthday party that I cannot even remember how the excitement and pleasure over the newer generation is!

But I absolutely love the cake! The number one cake, signifying the baby turned one, but to me I think it also signifies the baby is number one in the parents' hearts and lives, and what they hope for him to be - Number One!

Doesn't the cake look good?

End Of Partying

Today is the day when all partying ends and back to work begins. Since Christmas Eve, I had been partying almost non-stop. In fact, even before Christmas I had been eating and partying. Is it any wonder my weight remains constant instead of decreasing?

Starting with a pre-Christmas party at his cousin's place, followed by dinner at Forlino, then Christmas countdown at his aunt's place, a series of Christmas visitings, New Year countdown at a friend's place, and finally a lunch gathering at La Braceria and a barbecue dinner gathering at another friend's place last night.

It had been a great Christmas and New Year with good meet-ups with friends and loved ones. Now it is back to the normal grind of daily life, hoping that the year will go by smoothly without much glitches.

Celebrations On The Eve

It has been a wonderful Christmas Eve so far. We had an office party today for Christmas lunch. My office had an open house where parents could bring their kids in and the kids were having a blast going around wishing everyone Merry Christmas and distributing candy. I got another gift from my colleague - an orange-flavoured Body Butter, which I feel bad about because I have not prepared many gifts this year.

Then my dear specially ordered a log cake and brought it to my place. My mum asked him to choose three gifts for himself - a Christmas cake, a basket of honey-baked ham, and a bottle of wine.

I thought he would choose the ham because firstly, it is his favourite, and secondly, what is Christmas without honey-baked ham? Besides it is expensive and not sold any other time of the year. So anyone would have chosen the ham because it is such a rare opportunity one can get the ham for free. (Although if it is me, I would have chosen the cake instead because it is more likely the cake would be utilized than the ham.)

So I was expecting him to choose the ham but he chose the bottle of wine instead, and my mum packaged a bottle of Brown Brothers' Cienna (what else?) for him.

When I queried him, he said yes, anyone else would have chosen the ham, but he felt he should leave the best things for us hence chose the wine instead as it is the lower cost between the two.

I could not help grinning from ear to ear when I heard that as I was just so happy inside!

We will be attending mass then going to his aunt's place for a Christmas celebration later on. I am in such a good mood now that I am just so looking forward to the Christmas weekend!

Have a happy Christmas, everyone!

A Black Tie Affair

My new colleagues said I am very lucky to join the company at this time because I came in just in time to attend the company's Dinner and Dance earlier on. Due to this, all those who were attending were able to be released from work at three in the afternoon.

The theme is Black Tie / Evening Wear, so I wore my black strappy gown with a cross back, together with crystal earrings and necklace.

When I reached the ballroom, I was served canapes and cocktails in the reception area. I noticed that everyone was dressed to the theme, ladies were in formal gowns and four-inch stilettos and some even went for a makeover and hairdo session, and the men were dressed in suits with bow ties.

When it was time to enter the ballroom, I saw that it was nicely decorated. We had a menu of western fine dining dishes with alternative entrees. The emcee was really great and the entertainer was good too!

As with any company event, the dinner started off with the awards ceremony, followed by the entertaining show, and the lucky draws. Food was served along the way.

The lucky draw prizes were highly sought after - four iPod Touches, two iPads, two iPhone 4s, one MacBook Air and three travel vouchers of one thousand five to two thousand five. To the disappointment of my dear, I did not manage to win any of the iPads. To the disappointment of myself, I did not manage to win the MacBook Air.

The door gifts consist of twenty dollars worth of taxi vouchers and ninety dollars worth of shopping vouchers. Great, I can get my Christmas shopping done already!

The whole event ended near to midnight. After that I called a cab back and used up two of the cab vouchers. It had been a fun and interesting event, I only hope all other Dinner and Dance can be just as fun and classy!

Red Hot Chilli Night!

Last Saturday we went for a party at The Arena. There was a Revel night going on and the dresscode was "Red Hot Chilli". In any case, we went there just for fun, to mingle, drink and dance, as an unwind from our recent examinations.

There was quite a huge turnout. But one thing I notice is the single guys there somehow just keep to themselves and do not wish to approach the single ladies. Is it any wonder then that they remain single, if the guys just get scared off by sophisticated and confident ladies?

A pity we did not manage to stay further. The event ended around ten in the evening, and we went off after that after a few dances. In any case, there are some photos I took during the event!

Cultural Night!

The Cultural Night marked the close of the Conference. It started around a quarter to seven in the evening on Saturday. The first performance was a dance by the Malaysians, followed by introductions and announcements and the start of dinner. Then there was a skit by the Hong Kongers, followed by prizes to the winners of the Amazing Race.

Next it was a dance by the Indonesians, then the Taiwanese, who performed two dances - one traditional one and one modern one, with a change of costume too. Then there was a birthday celebration for all those born in the month of October, and finally, it was a skit and dance put up by the Singapore team.

It was a really wonderful night! Everyone had fun, and even in the final dance, so many of the delegates went on stage and participated in the dancing. Even the Archbishop came for our Cultural Night! I got so inspired that I think I would just have a mini musical all on my own!

It was so fun that the Archbishop actually called our Coordinator and congratulated on a job well done! That was such an honour and great to be praised by the Archbishop himself! I only hope we have more of this on our own too, so the fun would not stop here!

A Class Party

Yesterday's party was a boisterous affair. The kids all brought food. Because it was not a full class, there were not that much variety of food. In the end, we ended up with lots of chips and marshmallows.

Still it was an enjoyable time mingling with the kids. Somehow the boys are chattier as compared to the girls. The girls are quiet and do not talk much whereas the boys talked ten to the dozen and very eager to open up and share.

I will not be seeing them again until July when the next term starts. Hopefully they will be better behaved the next half of the year!

An Evening Of Barbecue And Fund-Raising

It was a really fruitful day yesterday. In the morning, we went to the Youth Olympics office to check out the various volunteer positions available. Guess what? I finally got a post, which I will elaborate more of in the next post.

In the afternoon, we went to watch "Shutter Island", a really wonderful psycho-thriller. Worth watching! Then we went to the gathering of the CHOICE February 2009 weekend. He was from that weekend and they were having a first anniversary get-together. It was a poolside barbecue at one of the couple presenters' home.

It was supposed to be a Japanese-themed party but no one brought anything Japanese. I actually packed in my yukata to change, but since no one changed into anything Japanese I did not bother changing in the end.

There was quite a bit of food like curry, chicken wings, sausages, corn, salad, drinks, broccoli, carrots, and the last bit - dessert, consisting of Japanese green tea and black sesame ice cream! That was the best!

After that, we adjoined to a Peranakan-themed party. It was meant to be a fund-raising party for the CHOICE Asian Conference. Our friend who organised this was supposed to auction off some of her Peranakan dishes during the dinner and dance last year, but since the auction items were cut down, she then organised this party to raise funds.

Each of us had to pay an entrance fee, which would go to the Conference fund, and then receive a door gift. The door gift is so pretty! It is a mist in a bottle. Besides that, there were Peranakan song and games, as well as authentic Peranakan food, like Ayam Buah Keluak, White Bait Fritters, Nonya Mee Siam, and lots of dessert to name a few. (To see what the food looks like, please go to our food blog.)

It was an enjoyable and enriching party! I ate so much that my already-tight Peranakan gear became even tighter! I was so afraid that it would tear, but luckily I reached home in good shape! Kudos to my friend for making the party such a success!

Peranakan Night!

The Peranakan party was a blast! Everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly and I had a good time mingling and eating. There was quite a lot of food, from nonya cakes to Peranakan roti prata and of course the dessert of gula melaka, which a few had feedbacked that it was nice! So my efforts were not in vain!

There were about twenty people or so. Even though it was a Peranakan theme, not many dressed according to the theme. Most came in normal wear. I was the only one in full Peranakan wear, courtesy of my mum. The photo below shows me in my Peranakan wear but I do not think I look good in this photo.

See, I look really bulked up in this picture! Why is it that despite all my cutting down on food and cycling and whatnot, I still look so round? :-(

Masquerade!

The ball last night was a smash! It was held at the Tower Ballroom of Shangri-La hotel, and we were put in a table full of old couples. Masks were provided, but wine was not, so if we wanted to have wine, we would have to buy it. And if we wanted fancy masks, we would have to buy them too. Hmmm... makes me wonder why we spent so much on the entrance tickets if everything was not provided!

Anyway, the start of the dinner was speeches by the organising committee and chairman, then dinner commenced. It was a buffet spread outside the ballroom. In true Eurasian (European) tradition, ladies went first. The men went later.

It was a big spread, there were nine courses, plus carving station, plus soup and roll, plus dessert. So all in all, everyone had a feast!

Then there were lucky draws, which were not so lucky for us. The dance floor opened around ten and dancing started. I must say, the two differences between a typical Chinese dinner and an Eurasian dinner are that :

One, people are more dressed up in an Eurasian dinner. If we go to any Chinese dinners, especially wedding banquets, somehow people deem shirt and jeans as appropriate wear. Even when the dress code indicates "Formal", people would somehow still come in shirt and jeans. Or shirt and pants.

But for an Eurasian dinner, everyone was dressed up. Ladies in elegant evening gowns and bling blings, men in suits. As in long-sleeve shirt, tailored pants, jacket and tie. Nothing less. There was even one in a bow tie!

Two, people like to dance after the dinner. I heard that in an Eurasian wedding, dancing is a norm. Whether they are young and old, everyone would dance after dinner. But for a Chinese dinner, everyone is just there for the food. They would leave after the food, without participating in anything.

Just like the dinner and dance of companies, I always wondered after the sumptuous dinner, where is the dancing? Nobody would bother to stay back to dance, everyone would just leave after dinner. So whenever I wanted to stay back and dance, in the end because no one else would be dancing, everything ended just after the dinner.

So I really enjoyed myself last night. Since it was a ball and the dress code indicates "Formal", I wore a black strappy evening gown with straps down the back, which was bought from Macy's in Los Angeles, paired with a crystal necklace and matching earrings, and a gold silk shawl.

When we reached the ballroom, we chose our own masks. So I got a red one with feathers on top, and he got a silver one which I remarked made him look like the Phantom. I even saw one that looked like Zorro!

Me in my new hair (he said I kind of look like Cleopatra here)

Me with the mask

My apologies if the photos look blurry, as they were taken with the iPhone in dim lighting. We started dancing after dinner. A variety of songs were being played, so we did the salsa and the cha-cha-cha.

Then the countdown started. Everyone popped the party poopers and blew whistles the minute 0000 was reached. Then ballads started playing and slow dancing started.

I have never had so much fun on New Year's Eve before. All the accounts I read of balls, dancing and partying, now I got to experience it for myself! If only more locals are interested in things like that, life would not be boring after a while!

Club Hopping!

My friend wanted to experience the night life here, so we went club hopping. Luckily it happened to be Ladies' Night, so we got complimentary entry and drinks. Initially I thought of starting with Butter Factory, then hit the night spots at Clarke Quay, but by the time we went to Butter Factory, the queue was so long (as usual!) that we decided not to wait and just proceeded to Clarke Quay.

Attica was the first stop. We were lucky that there was a launch of Jean Paul Gaultier's new pink perfume "Madame" so we got a small vial bottle of the same, together with five drinks coupons for champagne rose. However, when we went in, the champagne was all sold out so we ended up getting Bicardi Rum with Coke.

For all the hype I heard about Attica, it was less than impressive. The place itself was quite small and cramped. There were mostly ladies and not that many guys. The music was quite upbeat and the dance floor was crowded. We stayed for a while before proceeding to the next destination - Lunar, where there seemed to be a less crowd.

Lunar is an Asian Fusion Bar. Again, we got free entry and five drinks coupons. We ordered green tea mixed with whisky. When we went in, we realised it is a Chinese live band bar, with three girls crooning Mandarin songs and a guy singing a Cantonese songs. And there were more guys - but due to the kind of music, the guys were either Chinese-educated heartlanders or uncles. Again we stayed for a while before proceeding to our last stop - Powerhouse at St James Power Station.

We got complimentary and drinks coupons again, but did not get any drinks this time. I kind of like Powerhouse the best, because the music being played are oldies and retro mix, kind of more soothing. The people dancing were also enjoying themselves. The songs are catchy and made me feel like dancing. My friend felt the same way too!

As I have had a long day, we stayed for a while and went home after that. It was an enjoyable Ladies Night. For someone who does not really club hop, it was an experience, a good one! Hopefully I have the chance to do that again!

Jazz By The Beach

A friend and I went to Jazz By The Beach at Sentosa on Saturday night. After the shoe-ing event, I had to rush home to shower, then went to Novena, and finally went to the Jazz event. When we reached there, it was quite packed, so we could only sit at the deck instead of the tables around.

The band was playing a variety of music when we arrived. The singer is really good! Strong vocals too! She made people want to dance to her music! A family left and we managed to get some seats at the end. When the band started playing "Sway", I started grooving with the beat, although we did not get a chance to dance.

In any case, my friend took some photos of us at the event. His camera is definitely much better than mine, where night shots are concerned!

At the deck enjoying the music

At the table

Gyrating to "Sway"

Yet, again ....

This is supposed to be a coconut tree but it was too far and too dark

After we left, we started walking along the stretch of the beach and came across the cute beach sculpture of the same name. Just for fun, I started posing at the letters that make up the name, before going back and taking the shuttle back to the mainland. Overall, it was a pretty fun night out just chilling out and relaxing for the weekend!

Can you see the letters spell out "Siloso"?

Planning A Gathering ....

The gathering this Saturday was initially a meeting for those going to Phuket with me. Then my ice-skating coach said she loves to travel, and would like to go to South Africa with us if that is possible, so we invited her along to meet the other travel mates. However, since she was invited, it did not seem nice if we did not invite the rest too. So we invited the rest, and before anyone knew it, the invitation became open to other friends too.

In the end, I ended up with twenty people from just five. That will be really fun! This is the first time I organized a party for people from different social circles. I have organized parties before, but only for those of the same group, but this is the first time I am undertaking such a “massive project”.

So those who are coming are friends I go travelling with, friends I met at the recent Valentine’s Day gala event, friends I met through mutual friends and lunch / dinner dates, friends from church, friends I met online., friends of friends, friends from my workplace. Just all together to mix and mingle and have fun! I am sure looking forward to that!

To Bake Or Not To Bake

That was the question I was asking myself when I was sourcing for a raspberry cake. It is hard to find shops that actually sell raspberry cakes, because most sell blueberry or black forest, with the most common being strawberry. But I needed to find a raspberry cake because my friend told me before he has a weakness for raspberries. Hence the search.

The white chocolate raspberry cheesecake I ate in New Zealand was really good, thus I thought if I could find the recipe, I could produce it quite easily. Unfortunately, I have yet to equip my kitchen with the necessary baking utensils, and most of my friends do not bake, thus I am not able to use any of their kitchens.

So I started asking around and sourcing online. There are some online cake shops, but even they do not custom make cakes according to what I like, only according to their own recipes. Needless to say, most do not make raspberry cakes. Is it really that hard to make, I wonder? It is the same as making a strawberry or blueberry cake, except one uses raspberry of course. So why does none of the cake shops offer that?

After some search, I finally came across this shop that sells a Raspberry Chocolate Cake. I called them up last Wednesday and said I would like to place an order for the Raspberry Chocolate Cake, to be collected yesterday, but with fresh raspberries on top. Initially the guy who answered the phone told me okay, but the following day, he called me and said they had to turn down my order as the baking chef would be away until after the stipulated date.

He was nice enough by providing me with a list of his clients who make the cakes, but the list consists of mainly the high-class hotels, and calling them up to custom make a cake would be tantamount to breaking my bank. Besides, it is the peak New Year season so it will cost much more!

Finally, I had to settle for the White Chocolate Raspberry Cake at Coffee Bean. Personally I do not quite fancy their cakes, although I must admit their New York Cheesecake is good. Since the cheesecake is good, I thought perhaps with some raspberry filling it would not be that bad as well.

Unfortunately, the cheesecake comes with white chocolate crumbs on top, sprinkled with cocoa powder, without any raspberry fruit. I asked for fresh raspberries on top, but was told they do not custom make cakes. The only thing they do is to add in messages and supply candles. Still, the cake looks pretty good, at least from the picture!

Thus, in the end I settled for that. His birthday is not until a week later, but since we were going to a post New Year gathering at a friend’s place last night, I thought to give him a surprise party. I ordered the cake last Thursday, and went down to collect yesterday before going to my friend’s place. Luckily Coffee Bean was nice enough to send the cake to the outlet nearest to my office, so I collected it during lunch time, put it in the fridge in my office, then took it out and went to my company event.

My friend was really surprised! He did not expect that! Still, everyone said the cake looks nice and tastes good, and all of us had a slice. We made my friend took the remaining cake home since it is meant for him anyway. It really was a good party!

Mediterranean Night!

My company event last night was pretty interesting. We booked Club Islander at Sentosa, just next to the bridge linking the Southernmost Point of Continental Asia.

We were supposed to get off work at 3:00pm, but since my colleague and I were going with my boss, we had to wait for him to finish his meeting before we could leave.

The funny thing was that we made a wrong turn all the way to the railway station, then had to turn back, went into Sentosa, made the wrong turn again towards the eastern end of Sentosa when the venue was at the western end of Sentosa.

So we had to turn back again and by the time we finally reached the venue and changed into our beach / exercise wear, we were really late and the first event – Scavenger Hunt, had already started.

So while waiting, I brought my colleague to cross the bridge to the Southernmost Point of Continental Asia, where the sands are nice and water is flowing. That stretch still makes a very nice and cosy picnic area. Two Indian tourists asked us to take photos with them!

Sentosa on a weekday afternoon is really quiet. There was hardly anyone on the beach and crossing the bridge, unlike a weekend where the place will be filled to the brim!

Anyway by the time we went back, those involved in the Scavenger Hunt had returned, so we proceeded to the next game. There were 8 teams, and the tallest guy in every team had to stand on a chair at the ending point with a mineral water bottle on his head. Then another guy had to balance the smallest size girl on his shoulders, where she had to use a hose to fill up the bottle with water.

The hose would be filled from a bucket at the starting point, two other team members would then bring the hose (without spilling any water), run to the ending point and give the hose to the girl to fill up the bottle, all without any leakage! It was a pretty exciting game, and needless to say, some water did spill out. The team that filled up the bottle first would be declared winner, and my team won! :-)

The next game was a Tug Of War. Our Chairman himself took part, so of course his team won. It was quite painful to hold onto the rope and kept pulling at the same time.

I did not take part since there was already enough people, but my colleague pulled the rope and she showed me callouses on her hands after that. Poor thing!

Dinner was at Club Islander, the beach shack, itself. Soft drinks and wine were on the house, but fruit punches would be under one’s own expense. It was a buffet dinner, but honestly, the food was not that good, although filling.

There was mee siam, kebab, spaghetti, roast chicken, beef, lamb, bread and butter pudding, rolls with butter, salad (three varieties), mushroom soup and of course the normal assortment of cakes and fruit as dessert.

Oh, did I mention the event was a Mediterranean theme, so after the beach games, we had to dress in a Mediterranean style? I wore a white long sleeve flowing blouse with ruffles, with a long yellowish flowery skirt, and a beaded necklace, with an orchid in my hair.

A pity I did not take a picture of that. The picture I had was taken by my colleague, when both of us were at the beach. I was in my exercise gear, with my hair in a mess!

All in all, it was a fun event. I think team spirit was supposed to be built up, but as usual, people stayed together in their own departments and cliques, so at times, it was hard to mingle around. I got to see a lot of people whom I have never seen before as well!

In A "Drunken" Stupor

Is someone who is tipsy extra appealing to others? I was a bit drunk after my company's event last night. I wonder why actually, considering I only drank half a glass of champagne, and downed it with lots of Coke, Orange Juice and water.

The company event was really fun! There were lots of dancing, interacting, free flow of food and drinks. About three-quarters of the employees turned up. It was a Latin theme so I was dressed like a peasant, typical long flowing skirt with peasant top, with red lips and nails.

Anyway by the time the dancing started, I was already a bit tipsy, so I went off. I was not that drunk until I was totally comatose, but tipsy enough to feel giddy, hot and heaty all over and not able to walk properly.

I thought I could walk to the train station and catch a train home, but my head was killing me, so I sat down around Boat Quay and took a rest first, since the bar was at the tip of Boat Quay, where the statue of Raffles is.

I tried going off a few times, but each time I took a few steps, I felt like collapsing, so had to sit at one of the stone slabs around the river. A cat came over and rubbed herself against my legs. I stroked her and she bounded onto the seat and started rubbing herself against me and purring. I continued stroking her until she found a new target and jumped off.

In the end, I had to call my guardian angel and asked him to bring me home since it was no use me hanging around Boat Quay on my own at that hour of night. I tried to walk to the nearest train station, and this time I managed to succeed, although there were times I felt like collapsing.

And that was when that happened. I heard someone blasting loud music behind me. I turned behind and saw this guy whom I recognised as sitting by the river near me. He gave me a big smile.

I quickly turned back. If I was sober, I could have quickened my steps, but I was already walking in a zig-zag way. The last thing I wanted to do was to faint and let someone take advantage of me!

Then that guy became bolder and actually walked in front of me and blocked my way. He asked me for my phone number. I stared at him and ignored his request. Then he started begging me to tell him my name and number.

I ignored him and walked all the way to the train station. He was following me behind! On one hand, I was anxious whether my guardian angel could reach on time; on the other hand, I was worried for myself.

I told him that I do not even know him, why should I even tell him my name and number? Apparently he thought I am not local, probably from his country (he looks Filippino or Indonesian), so kept asking which country I came from.

I thought I would never brush him off, so I told him that I am meeting my boyfriend, please leave me alone. When I went down onto the platform, I was so afraid he would just follow me in, but luckily he did not.

Just as well my guardian angel came at that moment and he brought me home in an almost drunken stupor. I slept on his shoulder all the way home. I felt so sorry for him to call him out at that hour and then neglected him all the way.

Needless to say, I slept immediately after showering upon reaching home. And woke up with a hangover this morning, with a throbbing headache. Yet it is another work day ahead. *Sigh*

Shanghai Night!

My company's dinner last night was at the Grand Shanghai restaurant. The theme was 1930s Shanghai, thus we were asked to wear something oriental. There are still people who did not adhere to the dress code. Not able to find something oriental to wear is fine, but for a dinner, one should at least dress accordingly. There were people coming in T-shirt and jeans!

I wonder what our big Boss will say, seeing that he himself was in a formal suit, and the foreign guests all wore suits (for men) and evening gowns (for ladies). I feel that as employees, although we need not outshine the bosses in the clothes department, but at least wear something suitable for the occasion so as to give the due respect.

I was at the restaurant about 3:30pm. We were given a room behind the restaurant to change and makeup. The makeup artists arrived at about 4:00pm, and I happened to be the first to do my makeup and hair. Then I changed into the costume and we started rehearsing. At 6:00pm, we drummers went to help out at the reception.

It was a big event. We hired a host together with his own deejay, and a mini-Chinese Orchestra to keep us entertained while eating. The drums were the first segment, so we went on stage immediately after our big Boss finished his speech. I must say I was rather nervous as where I was on the stage, I was facing my superior directly. Luckily I managed to carry the whole thing through.

After the drumming, we went back to the room and I changed into my red and gold ensemble. The top fits me rather snugly, but the skirt was too long and loose that I had to use a belt inside. Hmmmm, if my mum's clothes can fit me well, then I really need to lose weight!

The food was good, although I missed the first two courses, the "Lo Hei" (now what is that in English?) and shark's fin soup. But if the shark's fin soup is authentic, then I am glad I gave it a miss!

After the fourth course, there was a fashion show, put up by twelve ladies of the company. It was like a fashion show, the models strutted on stage, went to mingle with the guests, went back and came out changed into another costume in record time, and finally all gathered on stage for the last pose.

After that, the deejay called for the five finalists for the Best-Dressed contest. Five guys and five ladies were called up. I was rather surprised I was one of those called, but on the other hand, no one else wore what I wore.

Each lady had to choose one of the five guys to be her partner. I chose this guy in authentic old oriental gear, complete with the "skirt" and vest. Incidentally, he is rather good-looking, but a pity he is married with two kids.

What we had to do was to dance and pose, then the VIPs (the bosses) would then vote for the best-dressed male and female respectively. The guy who partnered me won for the Best-Dressed Male, which was expected as there was really no competition, considering the rest of the guys wore only an oriental top with normal pants.

It was hard to choose the girls though, since ladies know how to dress. The judges could not decide, so the deejay decided to vote on popularity. The audience had to cheer each time his hand went above the head of the lady, and the one who got the loudest cheer won. The prize was finally given to this lady in an authentic 1930s Shanghai-style cheongsam, complete with the lace and shawl.

It was a fun and enjoyable night. Although I did not win anything, be it the Best-Dressed prize or the lucky draws, I really enjoyed myself. I hope I stay in the company long enough, then I can get to enjoy another formal dinner next year!

More Compilations ....

I was doing some PC spring-cleaning today when I came across an old archive of photos, taken during the first gathering at my place after the "Madame Butterfly" performance. It was a pot luck and everyone brought food, with the result of having too much food as you can see from one of the photos. Some of us went for a karaoke session after the gathering. This was way back in mid-May, before I got my camera and before I started blogging. Anyway, since I am making a compilation, I may as well add these in as well, so hope you like the snapshots!

Smile, you're on candid camera!

Snippets Of Old .... (A Compilation)

My cousin once asked me why I got myself a digital camera but she has never seen many photos on my blog? So, to accede her request, I decided to upload snippets of the events of recent months after I bought my camera.

Most of my photos died together with my previous hard disk, but I managed to salvage as many as I could, mainly due to the kind efforts of friends who always share their photo albums. Thus, I have compiled the photos taken into five albums, Zouk Night Out with my closest friends (incidentally also a celebration for the two couples who are getting married), chalet stay, Aloha! party, National Day Dinner and Performance, and more photos from the Retro party of last week.

Come to think of it, most of the events are with the Lyric Opera Chorus. They are really a bunch of fun and happening people who always spice up a party. Meanwhile, hope you enjoy the snapshots!
