Yesterday, I received a call asking if I would be keen to take up an assignment at a tuition centre starting this Sunday (tomorrow). Ever since I was a student, I had been tutoring and giving music lessons to supplement myself since I did not wish to take any pocket money from my parents. It started with three assignments, then two, then a brother and brother team, then a brother and sister team, then one, and finally there was none.
Still, I have never given up the thought of tutoring because I still want to work with children. Ever since I left the education industry, somehow my marketability as a tutor went down as parents prefer those who are still currently in the industry. However, if I am to tutor again, I can still command rather attractive rates because of my qualifications and experience.
I have applied to various tuition agencies and centres, but never had any assignments. So when the call came earlier, I was surprised but also glad. The timing is on Sunday early afternoon, which suits me pretty well since it is late enough to go after church, but still early enough to be able to do things after the class. Best thing is that the tuition centre is very near my place!
After the agent called me, the guy from the tuition centre called me. He asked me to go for an interview this morning to assess my qualifications and experience. When I went there in the morning, I was put through a job interview, asking about my specialisation, course of study, and the photocopying of my certificates. After that, he said I could start tomorrow, and will be paying me the rate which I commanded the last time round!
I am so happy I got this job! At least I can now do something more meaningful with my time, and can earn extra income to be able to save up more at a faster rate! I hope everything goes well tomorrow!
