Short Shorts ...

After finding the "perfect" swim wear to go to a more conservative country, I need to find a "perfect" pair of shorts, to play safe. Since the country is so conservative, I have to ensure that my body parts are covered as much as possible, so I set out to look for a pair of beach shorts that can withstand water.

After searching several places online and offline, I managed to find a pair of black beach shorts with what I think is waterproof material. Just perfect to wear over the swim suit! However, since it is featured online, I was concerned about the size of the shorts. The thing is, my body is more pear-shaped, so even though I can have a tiny waist, my bottom is always bigger, not curvier. So even if the waist part is able to fit, it may not be able to fit the other part.

Still, I ordered the largest size. When the shorts arrived, I was horrified to find out that the cutting is small. Bad news! When I tried it on, needless to say, it was too tight for me. I could pull the shorts up, but I was unable to close up the fastening. Another bad news!

So now I have a pair of shorts that cannot be worn, and cannot be returned, unless I shrink two sizes miraculously in two weeks. Or else I have to go looking for a pair of shorts again, but it is so hard to find one that has the right fit, which I like, and of a good colour at the same time!

Now I wish I really can shrink two sizes in two weeks, then all will be good!

Wardrobe Overhaul, Yet Again ...

In light of new things I bought, I went for another wardrobe overhaul tonight. This time round, I threw out all the older but still wearable clothes, which I do not intend to wear anymore. Things like skirts, blouses and some dresses.

 

Each time I spring clean my wardrobe, I am always amazed by the number of clothes I have. Sometimes, I cannot even remember where I got this item, and that I actually had a certain item! Sometimes I would suddenly think of a piece of clothing I wanted to wear, but for some reason could never find it in my wardrobe, only to discover it was hidden in between some other clothes that I have overlooked, but I did not manage to see because I have too many clothes.

 

I think every woman can understand my plight. After throwing out so many items, I still have no space in my wardrobe! I thought after throwing out so many items, there would be more space right? But there is still not much space! I still have so many dresses, tops, skirts, jeans, pants and T-shirts, not to mention sweaters and belts!

 

Looks like I really need a much bigger wardrobe, and for that, I need a much bigger room ...

A Multi-Purpose Dress

A few days back, I happened to wander into one of the shopping malls and saw this beautiful and sexy knee-length flared dress in red selling at one of the mobile stands. What captivated me about the dress is that it has a long sash attached to the top, so one can do wonders with the sash. The dress can be converted to a toga, strappy toga, halter top, strappy halter top, cross back, even a tube with a sash at the side.

 

Where can one find a dress this versatile? I never have to keep changing wardrobe again! Best of all, the dress was going at a price of S$45.00, from the original S$79.00, and it is a Victoria Secret's dress! What a good deal!

 

Needless to say, I bought it immediately. I can keep wearing this dress as long as I like for just about any occasion around!

 

I believe this kind of multi-purpose dress is going to be a pretty hot item in the future. This is about every girl's dream come true - to find a dress that is fit for any occasion!

Biker Chick?

I have finally found the perfect leather jacket! I have always been fascinated by leather jackets, not because I ride a motorbike, but because I find that the jacket looks cool and classy. The first leather jacket I bought was at Lawman, when it still has a shop here. I brought it to my office and started wearing to ward off the freezing temperature. When people see me in it, they always assumed I would be riding a Harley-Davidson after work. Sigh....

 

A few years later, the leather jacket wore out. The leather shreds started coming out, and it could no longer be worn without leaving shreds around. Hence, I threw it out, because it is no longer useful, and if I continued wearing, more and more shreds will come out and it would become nothing but a bald shell.

 

Of course it was heart-aching for me to throw it out! It was my one and only leather jacket, and I think I look really cool in it! Since then, I had to make do with cardigans and pashminas, but they do not give me the same effect as the leather jacket did.

 

Since then, I have been looking around for new leather jackets, but they are either too "biker chick" looking, or too expensive. Recently, I happened to go to one of the neighbourhood shopping malls, and saw a leather jacket on display at one of the mobile carts. I like the look, tried it on, and it fit! Most importantly, the price tag fits too! The girl who runs the cart told me the clothes are all from Korea, so the quality and material used is pretty good, which I can feel too!

 

Hence I bought the jacket. It is difficult to find something I actually like and since I really like this and the price is right, why not? I can bring to my office and start wearing to counter the cold again! And I can wear it when I go overseas to a cold place too!

Hats Off!

Recently I have been crazy over hats, ever since I went to Australia and saw my aunt wearing a hat whenever she goes out. The sun is really strong there, even when it was not summer, the rays beat down one you and you can really feel the strong rays penetrating into your skin. I had sunburn and dry skin after that, when all along I never had this whenever I am anywhere else!

 

Hence my aunt would wear a hat whenever she goes out, as she said that would protect her from the sun. I find that such a good idea, so when I was out today, I happened to come across some nice hats. I ended up buying a cloche hat, of the 1920s style, a wide-brimmed hat that truly acts as a sun hat, a narrow-brimmed hat that is more of a fashion accessory, and a white woollen hat that can be used during those times when I go to a place with winter.

 

These, in additional to the cowboy-like hat I already have, and the few fishermen hats and woollen caps I have. Now I have quite a good collection of hats, and I wonder, just when will I have the occasion to wear? People do not wear hats here, even though the sun can be burning all the time.

 

With all these hats, perhaps I should start wearing hats out more often from now on, despite what others will say. Afterall, it is for my own protection of my skin and complexion! That is why my aunt still looks so young, even though she is older than my mum! Those beauty columns are right, to prevent aging, use sunscreen and get away from the sun as much as possible! And I have to start doing that at my age before it is too late!

Crocs Crocs

I have always resisted buying Crocs because I find them ugly, hard to match and expensive. I do not find it worth it to spend that amount on shoes like that, even though those who love Crocs swear by their durability and comfort.

Today while having lunch with my colleagues, they met a former colleague who is now working in Crocs. She would be entitled to staff discount so we went to the nearest outlet to check it out.

That was when I realise Crocs have very pretty designs nowadays. I saw a pair of ballet flats that are shiny and can be used for work and parties. Wearing that on your feet, no one can tell it is Crocs!

I decided to try it on, and it is really fitting and comfortable! I can walk around in this the whole day without having any blisters or pain or whatnot! The shoes are so comfortable that I can even sleep in them!

The best thing was that the former colleague could let us use her staff rate and we could get the shoes at only half the price! A very good deal!

So I finally bought a pair of Crocs (which really do not look anything like the normal Crocs) as this kind of good deal may not come again. I can wear that to office and other functions too!

No wonder it is such a popular brand amongst the young and old alike!

Finding The Perfect Pair Of Shoes

Now that I am moving on to a more chic, classy and swanky office in a more hip area, I need a wardrobe to coordinate the move to a regional role. I have enough clothes that are suitable for work, but what I am lacking of is the shoes department.

Because I tend to walk a lot (from my house to the train station and back, up and down the hill to my office, across the overhead bridge), I tend to wear out shoes easily, especially ankle strap heels. Goodness knows how I have survived wearing just one pair of heels day in day out!

Currently I have three pairs of heels for formal occasions and fast wearing out my pair of work shoes. Hence for the past week, I have been looking for shoes to wear to work.

I have come across some inexpensive ones but the design do not catch my fancy. I have also come across shoes that I fall in love with at first sight, but the price is not right.

Why is it so hard to find a perfect pair of shoes? All I need is just one pair that cost thirty dollars the most! So many shoes around, yet why can I not find the perfect pair?

This is really depressing. If this goes on, I may have to go barefooted already!

Replica Dresses From "Sex And The City 2"

After watching one of my favorite shows "Sex And The City", I always ogle at their clothes. The first movie and the drama series did not create such an impact on me, but the second movie really impacted me.

I love the clothes they wore, especially in the opening scene when Carrie walked in with her white dress, holding a gold clutch, wearing gold stilettos and gold shades. The epitome of style!

And the mustard dress Miranda wore (also in the opening scene). These two dresses just stand out. They are out of the world, whereas the rest are quite normal.

So when I saw a lookalike of the dress Miranda wore at a boutique going at a steal (only S$33.00, complete with a belt), I bought it immediately. It is the same mustard colour with a camel belt. A wraparound style.

Then a few days later, I stumbled upon a website selling a similar dress worn by Carrie. The same wraparound dress, knee-length. It comes in grey, navy blue, white and blue and even has a sash that comes along with it! All for S$25.00!

So I bought it online. The dress just arrived and it looks every bit as good as it is in the pictures. If only I lost a bit of weight, I can just look good in those dresses!

How I wish I can shed off the kilos fast now, which seem to be taking a long time to shed off!

My New Pink Flip Flops

Earlier on when I went to see the doctor, I passed by a shop selling nice flip-flops for a steal. I was glancing at the smallest size flip flips and saw a pair of pink ones!

Because they are going for a steal, fits me perfectly and are surprisingly comfortable to wear for such a price, so I bought them. See, beautiful right?

Now I do not have to worry about footwear while going to the beach or beach holidays already!

Dressing Up A Mannequin?

Yesterday I happened to be doing some lunch shopping when I saw a loose-fitting dress that is so in vogue right now. It is a short-sleeve dress with drooping shoulders, and a belt. I went into the shop and looked around, but I could not find the dress.

When I asked the shop assistant, she just gave me a harassed look and said the dress was there. So I told her, if I could find it, I would not trouble her. Finally, she brought me to a box of used clothings, and found the same dress, albeit crumpled as I guess people have tried it on.

When I tried it on, it is a bit loose, hence I asked for a size smaller. The sales assistant looked at me and said it was the last piece. Could she at least look? So I asked, what about the one on the mannequin? She then said the one on the mannequin is a small size, but that is for display only, hence she could not undress the mannequin and let me try on the dress.

Can you believe that?! I never heard anything so ridiculous in my life before! So I told her, in that case, can I have a new piece, and a smaller size? She said there is no more smaller size. Since time was running out and I really like that dress, in the end I just let it be and bought it.

But that sales assistant ought to be better trained in handling customers and service! No wonder our service standards are dropping so drastically!

Sex And The City II

This show never lets me down, as always. Somehow this show draws an appeal, not because of the artistes. In fact, none of the actors and actresses in the show are my favourites. That is not to say they cannot act. Each one acted well and brought out the character.

But it is not the actors and actresses that draw me to the show, as I have mentioned. Yet this is one of my favourite series and the movies are one of my favourite movies (including this latest one).

The greatest appeal of the show is the glamorous setting. It is set in New York City itself, the city of glamour, designer fashion and stylish people. And the fashions. I always wondered where did the four ladies get their clothes? How could they afford it?

One is a writer married to a man who can give her a penthouse as a wedding gift, with a fabulous walk-in wardrobe full of shoes. One is a top notch lawyer. One owns a public relations company. One is a goody-two-shoes whose only dream in life is to have a happy family.

As unlikely as all four are and as different their personalities are, all four are best friends and never let each other down. They are always there for each other no matter what happens. They are all beautiful yet highly successful women in their own right yet at the same time share a common bonding which their men do not get.

And the clothes. Where did they get their threads? I will give anything to be able to carry off their poise, style and sophistication! Imagine me wearing those threads and I am positive I will definitely look much better because wearing those give me a kind of confidence that will let me ooze sex appeal! The right threads definitely speak wonders!

I hope there will be a third movie coming. Meanwhile I will try to source for some of those fine threads worn by the ladies. Hopefully I can get something at a bargain!

Branded ... Or Not?

Some guys I know gripe about girls being too brand conscious and deem them as "high maintenance" and not a good "wife material".

What exactly is a good "wife material" anyway? Someone demure and soft-spoken who lets the guy do anything he pleases? What makes anyone think that a more intelligent, capable girl who stands firm to her beliefs and speaks her mind will not be a good wife?

Besides, if a man can spend thousands just on a camera and more on lens, why kick up a fuss when a woman spends a few hundred on bags, shoes, clothes and makeup? If the woman is able to afford it, why the issue?

Personally, I do not really care for brands. Of course I do have a few branded products like a Prada bag, Prada wallet, Levis jeans and several pairs of branded sunglasses.

But I do not nor can afford to buy branded products all the time. That is not to say I shun them though. In certain aspects, the brands do speak. Yes, a Louis Vuitton costs a bomb but the original workmanship and details are far more superior than a cheap knock-off. You buy one original it can practically last you for a lifetime.

That does not apply to cosmetics though. Contrary to what many think, the more expensive the brand is, it does not mean the products are necessarily better.

I have used common brands like Maybelline, ZA, Loreal and Revlon, as well as upmarket brands like Estee Lauder, Lancome and Clinique. My first choice? Still Maybelline, followed by ZA.

I may be biased but I base my judgement on lipsticks, lipglosses, mascaras and face powder - products I use the most. My lips tend to be dry so the lip products should not cause them to be parched.

My lashes are short so the mascara should really curl the lashes and not smudge the eyelids even after using an eyelash curler. And I have quite a unique skin colour tone so the powder cannot be too dark nor light.

So far after trying on the various brands, Maybelline lip products and mascaras still win hands down! The lipsticks and lipglosses actually moisturise my lips and keep them supple and glossy.

The mascara does not clump or smudge yet make my lashes fuller and more sultry. ZA's face powder is the only one that actually fades into my skin.

In comparison, the lip products of the upmarket brands tend to be drying, sometimes even causing my lips to be parched. The mascaras clump and smudge.

The face powders are a shade too light and make me look like a ghost sometimes. So who says the more expensive the better?

One thing which I will not spend so much on is shoes. Face it, when you put them on your feet, does anyone actually notice? Does anyone even know you are wearing a seven-hundred dollar pair of Ferragamos or a fifty-dollar pair of Charles and Keith? If you wear them often, they are going to be worn out quickly and then you have to replace them every few months.

That is not to say I just buy shoes off the shelf like that. I do believe in quality and comfort especially since I will be walking in them. So my shoes have to be fitting, round tip and open toe.

My feet are broad hence I cannot wear any pointy tipped shoes. My toes tend to clump together causing discomfort and blisters hence I cannot wear anything close toe. Thus all pointy tipped pumps are out.

Which is why my shoes are always open toe ones. Plus my feet are small so it is even harder to find the perfect pair of shoes. At times you find the perfect pair but the colour and price may not suit you.

Still I do have a few brands I like. Hush Puppies and Charles and Keith are my favourites. The shoes are nice, comfortable and not that pricey. For sports Nike is always the best. One should not save on sports shoes as the right pair does make a difference when you are running around or exercising.

For travelling and outdoor, Timberland boots are the best. Yes they cost a bit but they last a long time and can withstand rain, snow, sand, in short, all weathers. Get a good pair and you need not get another for the next decade.

Still that is not to say I do not like branded products. Like a typical girl, I do enjoy the occassionally indulgence. If you are in the mood and it is within your means, why not? Everyone deserves to pamper themselves once in a while.

So I, too, hope to own a Louis Vuitton or Coach or Kate Spade or Gucci bag or wallet one day, as well as Ferragamo or Jimmy Choo shoes. And yes, Tiffany diamond jewellery and a Vera Wang gown as well!

"Puss" In Boots

I used to wonder why people generally think locals do not know how to dress, as compared to our other Asian counterparts. So I tried being fashionable yesterday. I wore a white knitted dress with knee-high boots. I think I look good, and my friend said so too!

However, I start to understand now, why it is that we do not dress like our North Asia counterparts. It is not as if we do not like to wear the same kind of clothes. For instance, I am pretty happy carrying off a woollen cap, or boots with shorts, or boots with jeans and whatnot, but it is due to the weather that people do not dress like that.

I wore the boots for just the evening, and already I could feel my legs perspiring! Imagine dressing for cooler climates in hot and humid weather! I have no idea if anyone was looking at me with an incredulous look because no one here actually dresses like that, but still, who cares as long as I look good?

Despite it all, I will want to pull off this combination again. It makes my legs slimmer, gives the impression I am taller and I feel so much more confident when I look good, so why not? Who cares how others think anyway?

A "Bag" Lady

I went to a second hand shop to try to sell off some bags and wallets I had. I had two Louis Vuitton tote bags and two Prada wallets to sell off. I had only used them a couple of times, so I decided to sell them off rather than let them stay in my room and rot. However, when I reached the shop, the owner claimed that without the receipt, she could not take it as there is no proof of authenticity.

How am I supposed to have receipts after so long? I am not those who keep receipts (unless for special occasions). Do the Authenticity Cards not suffice? What is the fuss about brands or whatnots anyway, that we must show the receipts as proof that we did buy the products from the boutiques? Luckily my friend bought the two Prada wallets from me, but for the two Louis Vuittons, I am still looking for buyers.

I am not exactly a brand person. That is not to say I will not enjoy brands once in a while. I have been carrying a Prada wallet around ever since the brand became popular. Occasionally during some Christmases, my mum would give me a Prada bag. When she goes overseas, she would buy me a Prada bag at times. Sometimes she would get me Louis Vuitton, Kipling, Polo Ralph Lauren and Esprit bags. (Remember, I am into bags?)

As a result (excluding those I have sold or am thinking of selling), I now have four Prada bags, two Louis Vuitton bags, and various others like Esprit, Kipling, Elle, Adidas (that was a birthday gift last year) and Valentino. It will be nice to own a Coach, Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel too, but at times practicality has to take precedence.

The thing is, I am not a brand person as in I must only get a certain brand or cannot live without a certain brand. To me, as long as the quality and design is nice, and will not burn too big a hole in my pocket, that is all that matters, notwithstanding the brand name. Having said that, I prefer Prada over any other brand because of the simplicity yet elegance of the classic design. If it is not because I have generous loved ones and friends around me, I will never be able to afford so many.

So I can never understand those people who change a new bag every few weeks just to show that it is the newest model of a particular brand. Where do they get the money from? Even though I collect bags, I still carry the same bag to work, and change my bags according to occasion. I do not change a new one every few weeks.

For instance, on Mondays to Thursdays I carry the professional black Valentino, which I have been using ever since I started work in the corporate world. On casual Fridays, I change my bag according to my outfit and whether I will be going out at night and where I will be going. My weekends the type of bag will depend on where I will be going, who I will be meeting, what I will be doing. And of course, I have a special bag for Lunar New Year to collect the red packets!

So even though it is nice to own branded stuff, there is only so many things one can have. To be honest, just how many things do we need? For me, it is time to get rid of a few stuff so as not to clutter up my room. I can clear my stuff and get some cash back at the same time, so why not?

Little Black Dress ....

I bought a black dress a few weeks back. I was not deliberately looking for a black dress. What happened was I was on my way home and there was a mannequin wearing a black dress. It is sleeveless, A-line cut and body-hugging, perfect for work! I fell in love with it at first sight. Since it was the sale period, I decided to make full use of the discount and got it.

Fashion magazines have always stated a lady’s wardrobe can never do without a little black dress. How true! A black dress can be worn on any occasion - formal, casual, professional. Somehow one tends to look better in a black dress, even if it is not your colour. It can be matched with anything and any colour - heels, accessories, bags. Nothing is as versatile as a black dress!

As long as I can remember ever since I started wearing dresses, I have always had a little black dress. It started with one piece for work. Then my ex got me a Macy's ball gown during his trip to Los Angeles. I love that gown! It is long, with black straps and low-back with crisscross straps. Just the kind of design I like for a gown! That gown is still around, I only wore it once for a company’s dinner and dance a few years back.

I wanted to bring it and wear at my cousin’s wedding in Australia, but my mum took one look at it and said no. She told me how could anyone wear black at a wedding, it was not as if I was attending a funeral! I wore a silvery satin gown in the end. But guess what? A western wedding needs a black dress! Half the guests were in black gowns because that was the only formal attire and colour for them!

Since then, I am still looking for an occasion to wear that gown. Maybe if I attend another gala dinner, then I can wear that. Now I have several black dresses, including the one I just bought for work. I have a black toga dress which I wear for classy dates, and another sleeveless black dress, also for casual dates. Come to think of it, I really do have lots of clothes! Perhaps one day I need to do another wardrobe overhaul to see just what I have to get rid of!

Boots .... Finally!

The online store where I bought my shoes from, sent me an advertisement where they were having a massive discount and sale on boots – all kinds of boots, leather, knee-length, suede, ankle. The boots were going at half price, plus if you get two pairs, you get another twenty-five percent off the second pair! What a good deal!

So I took the opportunity to order boots online! Since I had been looking for boots, I figured why not, especially since I can never get this offer anywhere else! One pair of ankle boots, one pair of knee-length boots, both black leather. I wanted to order suede, but it would be too impractical in a climate like this! And they arrived a few days back, just in time for me to wear the knee-length boots out while visiting to match with my above-the-knees tube dress.

Because they are boots, I ordered half a size bigger, yet they are a perfect fit! Even for the knee-length boots, I thought they would be too long for me, but the top stopped snugly just at the base of my knees! My family members deemed me crazy for wearing footwear like that in this kind of weather, but so be it! I got the boots I wanted, and for sure I will be wearing them more often, especially when going overseas to a cooler climate!

Of Dresses And Shoes

I was looking for a new year dress when my mum happened to pass me one which she got recently. As usual, it is a nice looking one, red and white stripes and various patterns. What I am surprised about is that it is a tube, and a rather short one. The entire dress goes down to above my knees, probably around mid or three quarter down my thighs!

Hmm… why would she, of all people, get that kind of dress for me, when she was always frowning upon me being “too exposed” in my dressing? Then I realize there are detachable straps, so knowing her, she would kind of expect me to wear that together with the straps, but knowing me, I will wear it as a tube without the straps.

Luckily she had not seen the green dress which my best friend passed to me. She will have a flip when she sees just how low the back is! The dress may be a perfect fit body wise, but it is still a tad long for me, so unless I am wearing four-inch heels, otherwise the hem will keep sweeping the floor.

The ski jacket which I told my dad to get for me from China is finally here! It is a Columbia Titanium’s The Ginger Ladies’ Ski Jacket. Dark grey and white, with splashes of red. Not as nice looking as I thought from the picture I came across, but at least it is a perfect fit!

I guess on the ski slopes, functionality counts more than appearance, as after all when people are busy skiing and snowboarding and tumbling and falling, who will have the time to look at others? Now I really cannot wait to go on another ski trip!

Having said that, I needed shoes as the current pair I have is just about worn out. Thus, I needed to get new shoes for new year as well as for work. After looking through all the shoe stores, including the ones I always go to, somehow I am not able to find a pair of shoes I like, and is a comfort fit at the same time.

So I went online. I have bought clothes and jewellery online, so why not shoes? Of course, shoes are risky because the sizes may be different, and they may not be comfortable. Still, I took the risk because I managed to find two pairs of very nice shoes! One is in bronze the other is in black.

I admit, they are not that cheap as compared to normal heels from other stores. I was debating whether to get them because I want to stick to my resolutions. But it is either that or go barefoot or wear flip flops, as I have not been able to see a pair of shoes I fancy in the stores here. New Year is in a week’s time, so I need to get a pair by then!

Besides, one pair can last for quite a long while, so take it as a long term investment! They may be party shoes, but they are suitable for special occasions and work as well. The heels range from three to four and half inches, so at least I can appear “taller” when wearing them!

When they arrived, I was really pleased because the shoes look as good as they do in the pictures. And they are a perfect fit! Seems like I do know my size! The shoes are comfortable and easy to walk around in, despite being “high”. First time ordering shoes online and it is a success!

Dressed For Formality

The gala dinner could not have come at a better time! At least I have a few gowns in mind to wear, so it will not be so much of a headache sourcing for the appropriate evening gown and shoes. Plus, I have the appropriate jewellery and evening bag as well, so all the combination looks set and ready to go! I was actually deciding between two gowns.

If you remember, I bought a replica of the yellow satin gown which Kate Hudson wore in “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days”. I even got a set of citrine necklace and earrings set to match with this, as well as a pair of heels. This was supposed to be worn for my cousin’s wedding last year, but then her wedding became a lunch reception, so I need not wear anything that formal.

Then I thought of wearing it to my best friend’s wedding, but she had a certain colour code so I wore my plum-coloured long dress instead. Hence, I have yet to wear that yellow dress. Then my best friend gave me a dress prior to her wedding. It is an emerald green dress, which looks suspiciously like the one Keira Knightley wore in “Atonement”.

My best friend got that dress because she thought of wearing it as one of her wedding gowns, but then the gown became too long for her so she gave it to me instead, and it fits me like a glove! She even gave me a set of emerald necklace and earrings to match it!

Thus, I was deciding between these two dresses, but since it will be a glittering gold gala dinner, I thought perhaps it would be a better idea to wear the yellow one instead, complete with all the bling bling! I just received the tickets to the dinner, and the dress code states “formal” and “with a tinge of gold”. So it seems that I do know how to dress for occasions!

Boots And Company

If I am not mistaken, I think there is a department store or cosmetics shop with this name in the United Kingdom. But I am not referring to cosmetics, rather, I am trying to find out where to get a pair of knee-length boots.

I have a pair of black ankle boots, which I bought a few years back from Hush Puppies. The reason I like that pair is because it has a rather classic look. I just slip them on and zip them up, not the troublesome button-down boots. But I seldom get to wear it because it is hard to find an occasion to wear boots here.

So why am I thinking of buying a pair of long boots now? There are lots of cute boots in the stores, but I am looking for something that is not black, more towards camel colour, suede material, not expensive yet durable, not too hot or stuffy when I have them on, not too heavy or weighing down and weather-resistant. Quite a lot of criteria right? Which is why I find it so hard to buy boots even though I would so like to own a pair!

The first pair of boots I tried on was years back when my best friend and I went to Doc Martens. I remember I saw a pair of boots which I absolutely adored, and in my size, yet when I tried them on, they were too heavy for me. I could hardly walk in them! I was complaining to her that it was heavy, and she remarked that they are boots, of course would be heavy! Duh!

Since then, I never did find any nice pair of boots that were light and durable until the ankle boots I saw in Hush Puppies. Now what I really like is a pair of knee-length boots to complete my wardrobe. But it is so hard to find them here!

Of Chiffon And Lace

My new interest - chiffons! By this, I do not mean the cake, but the fabric. The latest fashion craze is now chiffon, satin and lace. And I prefer chiffon much more than cotton, because the fabric is so soft! Delicate and skimpy (to a certain extent), but really soft and comfortable!

I bought a few chiffon dresses and tops online recently. The moment I saw the design, I really love the clothes! Floral prints, plain designs, princess sleeves, the clothes are really nice! The chiffon is mixed with lace (for a sweeter look) or satin (for a more formal look).

The only problem is I have to figure out how to wash the clothes. It is too delicate to be machine-washed, and too harsh to use hand-wash by the normal detergent. I suppose I have to run it under warm water with mild detergent if I do not intend to send it to the professional laundromats.

Now I only hope I do not look over age wearing chiffon. The last thing I want is to wear something which I cannot carry off, because clothes do make the (wo)man, and things will backfire if one has on the wrong kinds of clothes!
