How To React To Accusations?

May day again. End of April had been rather interesting, considering I was part of a forum where there was some exchange going on. It started off with an interesting piece of writing which could well make into a script, and I was really inspired after reading that. However, some people, perhaps due to ignorance or arrogance, accused the writer of plagiarism.

Come to think of it, if one was wrongfully accused, how shall one react? In those court cases, when someone was wrongfully accused, they always protest their innocence. Some people chose to ignore anything that is untrue and maintain their stand. But when someone had been accused of something, shall one then ignore, or shall I fight to the end?

Will it help matters if one fight to the end? To some people, if you have really not done anything, why not just say so? But what if people already have the impression that the accused did the accused deed? Will it make matters worse if the accused protest his / her own innocence, or shall he / she save his / her energy and time and just keep quiet? Will keeping silent be too cowardly in this case?
