An Enjoyable Barbecue

We organised a barbecue at his place last night as it would be the last weekend his parents would be around. So I cooked rice vermicelli for about fifteen people. This time round I think the vermicelli does not taste as good because I meant it to be vegetarian so cut down on a few ingredients. Still, it was quite a success, the food and the barbecue. At least no one complained!

Initially, we were worried that there would be too much food, but almost everything was snapped up. There was hardly any leftovers. As with almost all barbecues, there were chicken wings, sausages, fishballs, sodas, satays, marshmallows, prawns and booze, with my rice vermicelli of course! There was even fresh salad brought by one of the guests which was really delicious!

It was also the first time I tried out the new barbecue chicken marinade. The last time I made chicken wings was when I deep fried them, so the marinade is a bit different as compared to grilled or barbecued chicken. By right, I had to marinate the chicken wings overnight before the barbecue, but due to time constraints, the chicken was only marinated for an hour or so.

How did I make the marinade? Just add dark soy sauce, sesame oil, oyster sauce, ground black pepper, onion powder and five spice powder together, dip the chicken wings in and leave them in the mixture. The trick is to ensure all the chicken parts are covered in the mixture, so the hands have to be dirtied a bit in order to coat all the chicken pieces in the marinade. Considering it was the first time I tried this out, the recipe was quite successful at least, since no one said anything about it being awful tasting. :-p

Overall, it was a very enjoyable barbecue. Everyone was able to mingle and socialise well, no one felt left out (I hope), and everyone helped out in some way or another. I felt relief and a tinge of sadness when it came to an end. I have not had that much fun for ages already!
