A "Perfect Ten" Wedding

The 1010 wedding was so perfect! I arrived at the bride's suite in the afternoon, where she had the veiling by her parents. Then it was off to a small room for the traditional tea ceremony with her relatives. After that my friend and I went back to the suite for a break while the bridal couple went around photo-taking on site.

Then the dinner commenced. It was a poolside buffet dinner. The bridal couple had the unity sand ceremony, very meaningful and symbolic. First the groom poured the sand, then the bride poured the sand. It symbolised their single lives. They took turns pouring the sand, layer after layer. Then finally they poured together, to symbolise their joint lives, no longer as one, but together as one.

After that the solemnisation and signing of the marriage certificate commenced. Then the couple went around taking photos with every table and the buffet dinner started. Since it was a buffet, everyone had the freedom to walk about and take food. People left after they have finished eating, unlike a sit down banquet of eight to nine dishes, where we had to wait for every dish to be served.

Halfway through the dinner, the couple went back to the suite to change. My friend and I followed to help the bride change into her traditional peranakan wear. Then the couple went out and poured the champagne, with a speech by the groom.

Since it was a buffet dinner, guests started leaving around nine-thirty. It helped that dinner started on time, around seven-thirty. Imagine if it was a banquet, dinner would not have started until almost nine! Hence it would drag on until eleven or later!

The whole ceremony was cosy and sweet. So beautiful! As I have mentioned before, weddings are always beautiful to me, as it signifies the joining of two single people who manage to come together despite odds and differences, with the commitment to live their lives as one, forever. And that is really a wonderful thing!
