Being A Classy Person ....

Some years ago, I attended a dressing style and grooming workshop which was on the suitable colours, styles and behaviour I can carry off. It was a one-day comprehensive workshop on presenting oneself with a good image and social etiquette. In other words, teaching one how to be a “classier” person.

But what exactly is a “classy” person? How can one tell? Perhaps a “classy” person shows in behaviour, speech and appearance. If one sees an elegant or smart-looking suave person, one normally forms the impression that he / she is classy.

Rich people are normally classy, in the way they dress, speak and behave. It is as if it is in their blood to behave in a certain way and portray a certain image. On the other hand, people who are not so well-off may never be able to reach that standard, even with training.

And some heartlanders (basing on my own observations on certain behaviour, not condemning all) behave in a way that totally put people off, what others will deem as “low-class” and “uncouth” behaviour.

I am not sure about guys, but a typical “classy” lady is one who is well-groomed from head to toe and well-behaved. She is well-coordinated from the hair to the face to the teeth to the clothes to the figure to the nails to the shoes. She has the right hairstyle, the right makeup, the right clothes, the right shoes and the right manicure and pedicure for every occasion.

But this is just appearance wise. She also knows how to walk properly in an elegant manner. Real ladies do not sashay or walk, they glide in a graceful fashion. She knows the right words to speak, often communicating well fluently in whatever language she is speaking, smiling and flashing her pearly whites at everyone. She will have both outer and inner beauty.

She does not go out of the house with unkempt hair, nor does she scream and shout in an awful manner, nor does she spit or smoke all over in public, nor does she speak or behave like an uneducated “auntie”.

Despite all unfairness, appearances and behaviour do play a part in making the right friends and finding the right partner. If we behave in a certain way, we will attract a certain type of people. So if we behave in a “classy” manner, chances are we will attract the same type. If we behave like an uneducated “auntie”, then we will likely attract that type.

When I say “attract”, I mean able to befriend people who are really serious and sincere, not people who are only out for flings. I am also still trying to behave like a real lady in every aspect, then perhaps the type of people I meet will be different. I may start meeting the type of people I really want to meet from then on.

This kinda reminds me of Princess Diaries when everything about class was taught by the queen to her granddaughter. Body posture such as slouching and standing up straight can make a world of difference. It would be nice to act in an elegant fashion because it speaks of status and pride.

If you are not like that in the first place, such that you are comfortable being an "auntie" in the first place, why try to attract the upper classes? Just some food for thought..

A way a person carries himself or herself does have some effect on a person's destiny. Saw a discovery on this where they took a group of ordinary girls, changed them, threw them into the high society and see how they things turn out for them.

Changes are usually reflected inside out. Meaning, to change the way a person behaves, you need to change the way a person thinks.

Give a person confidence; and you will never see that person slouch when he/she walks.

Goy : Now whatever gave you the idea that I always behave like an "auntie"?

Leecooper & Kairinu : Yes, very true indeed.
