A Holy Day Of Obligation

Ascension Day.

Attended Mass I did.

Asked for mercy and forgiveness from God

As well as to forgive all those who sinned against me.

And I found peace.

Allelujah!

Amen.

It is not a holy day of obligation in Canada.

I am glad you found some peace.

Is not a holy day? I was told it is, so had to go to church, which in the end turned out to be a good thing.

If I am not mistaken the only truly obligatory Holy Day in the Catholic church is Easter.

Other days may be days of obligation (like Sunday) - but it may not always be possible for people to attend services (for examples, priests may not be available). However a sincere effort must be made to attend.

Bishops are able to impose other obligations on the people. In Singapore's case, I guess the local bishop regards Ascension day as a day of obligation.

There is no problem in going to church frequently - when I was younger I used to go almost daily, but then things like work and family get in the way.

For example, bishops are also able to modify the type of penance Catholics must follow (like meatless Fridays). In Canada, we have no obligation to restrain from meat on Friday, however, we are obligated to substitute some other penance.
