Memoirs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

This month marked the 60th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The survivors could still feel the after effects of the bombings. Due to the bombings, both cities which took centuries to develop disintegrated within minutes. Amazing the damage something so small can cause.

But were the bombings really necessary in the first place? Would the Allies have won without these drastic measures? Afterall the war in Europe had already ended a few months back with Hitler's suicide and the emancipation of the Jews. The situation in Japanese-occupied Singapore and Malaya was not that far off. The anti-Japanese forces were getting stronger and more people were fighting back. The Japanese army was weakening. Maybe it was just a matter of time when the Japanese surrendered. Ironically it took the bombing of Pearl Harbour by the Japanese for the United States to enter into war and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States to end the war. Seemed like what went around would turn around after all.

I sincerely hope nothing so drastic will ever happen again. If there is ever another war, I dread to think what will happen. That is why those terroritsts have better stop all their actions before it is too late.
